About Me

Hello and thank you for taking an interest in my work

For over 16 years, I have taught children of all ages and abilities in both state and private sectors. I have always loved working with young people and have remained passionate about giving them the tools to express themselves with clarity, confidence and self-belief.

Following my graduation from the University of East Anglia, my teaching career started in 2003 in Norwich, as a peripatetic teacher in a number of schools and youth theatres. I gained Qualified Teacher Status as a Secondary Teacher of Drama and English in 2009 and went on to lead my own department as Head of Drama. After relocating to Oxfordshire I worked at an independent school in West Berkshire.

Throughout my teaching career, and particularly as a Sixth Form tutor, I have mentored many students through personal and academic difficulties. Often this entailed working carefully with colleagues to ensure a young person was fully supported, signposted and able to access the specific help they required.
Young people face a wide range of very unique stressors and I quickly learnt how vital a teacher’s role is in supporting them and their mental wellbeing. For these reasons I decided to train to be a Youth Instructor for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England in 2018 and a Mental Health Trainer for Oxfordshire Youth in 2019.

I have 2 young children who, at the time of writing, are 6 and 2 years old. After both births I suffered with postnatal depression. Luckily, I was able to make a fast recovery thanks to urgent treatment and support. The experience gave me a far greater understanding of the difficulties we face in recognising we are unwell as well as the courage required to speak up and ask for help.

As a passionate and longstanding supporter of effective Relationships and Sex Education, I chose to train to be an educator with Esteem Acet UK in 2019 and now enjoy delivering RSE workshops in Primary and Secondary schools. I look forward to seeing how RSE will be developed in schools when the new statutory regulations come into effect in September 2020.

I live in West Oxfordshire with my husband and two children.

"All children deserve the opportunity to flourish and fulfil their potential. I believe this is best achieved by promoting their self esteem, wellbeing and resilience.

A child who has good self esteem is more likely to be a confident, independent and emotionally intelligent adult."
