Young people face a wide range of very unique stressors and I quickly learnt how vital a teacher’s role is in supporting them and their mental wellbeing. For these reasons I decided to train to be a Youth Instructor for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England in 2018 and a Mental Health Trainer for Oxfordshire Youth in 2019.
I have 2 young children who, at the time of writing, are 6 and 2 years old. After both births I suffered with postnatal depression. Luckily, I was able to make a fast recovery thanks to urgent treatment and support. The experience gave me a far greater understanding of the difficulties we face in recognising we are unwell as well as the courage required to speak up and ask for help.
As a passionate and longstanding supporter of effective Relationships and Sex Education, I chose to train to be an educator with Esteem Acet UK in 2019 and now enjoy delivering RSE workshops in Primary and Secondary schools. I look forward to seeing how RSE will be developed in schools when the new statutory regulations come into effect in September 2020.
I live in West Oxfordshire with my husband and two children.
